WAEC

What is the WAEC?

The Watsonville Aviation Education Center (WAEC) is a joint effort between the Watsonville Municipal Airport, the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) Chapter 119, and the Pajaro Valley Unified School District. Its purpose is to sponsor state-of-the-art aviation related educational programs and activities for youth and adults. These include, but are not limited to, a workshop and specialized tools for aircraft construction and class instruction, an aerospace library, introductory aircraft simulator and flight experience, financial assistance toward aviation career training, publishing of an informative monthly newsletter, and providing meeting facilities for the Federal Aviation Administration and all other area non-profit aviation organizations dedicated to fostering aviation knowledge, flight proficiency, and safety through education.

The first year of instruction was completed in May, 2000, graduating eight students. Four of the students have decided to continue their education in aviation by enrolling in the Gavillan College Aviation Mechanic (A & P) program. Scholarships to assist in their education were provided by EAA Chapter 119.
